SABIC introduces PCR-based LNP ELCRIN compound for consumer electronics housings
SABIC launched its first PCR-based carbon fiber-reinforced compound – the new LNP ELCRIN DC0051RC1 compound, containing 75% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content, to enhance product circularity while delivering high-performance mechanical properties. The LNP ELCRIN DC0051RC1 compound is commercially available globally.
Formulated with polycarbonate (PC) resin, this specialty material provides excellent dimensional stability, high modulus and thin-wall UL94 V0 flame retardancy (FR), making it well suited for consumer electronics housings.

“We do more than incorporate recycled, upcycled or bio-based content in our specialty thermoplastics. Our formulation experts also achieve high levels of performance, aesthetics and processability. We’re committed to helping customers improve circularity without sacrificing quality,” said Sergi Monros, vice president, SABIC’s Specialties BU.
For LNP ELCRIN DC0051RC1 compound, SABIC developed a new formulation designed to support circularity goals while maintaining key mechanical and FR properties. Although incorporating recycled material while maintaining FR performance can present formulation challenges, the SABIC team achieved a UL94 V0 rating at 0.8mm.
Besides lightweighting through thin-wall geometry, the material provides dimensional stability and low warpage for laptop housings and other large, structural components.
In addition to improving circularity through the incorporation of 75% PCR content, the compound features a non-chlorinated/non-brominated FR chemistry to help reduce health risks and negative impacts on the environment.
