Toray launches two nanofiltration membrane element models for water purification

Sep 2, 2026

Toray Industries launched two advanced nanofiltration membrane element modelsNE8040-XDM and NE8040-90F – both feature excellent impurity removal performance and high chemical durability. The models are available worldwide from July 2026.

Toray launched two advanced nanofiltration membrane element models for water purification.

Wholly owned subsidiary Toray Advanced Materials Korea developed and manufactures both models. It drew on technical assistance from Toray’s Global Environment Research Laboratories in developing the NE8040-XDM.

A growing need for sustainable water resources and stricter environmental regulations have driven global demand for nanofiltration membranes for an array of applications. These include reusing industrial wastewater, recovering valuable resources, and employing advanced water purification.

The Toray Group accordingly develops products optimized for specific applications.

The NE8040-XDM features a proprietary, highly durable structure. This delivers up to five times the chemical resistance and 10% higher divalent-ion separation performance than baseline offerings. This model supports stable, long-term operation in industrial wastewater treatment and minimal liquid discharge (MLD) and zero liquid discharge (ZLD) processes.

The NE8040-90F combines high removal efficiency for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and other trace hazardous substances with high permeate flow, helping improve water safety while potentially lowering operating costs for water purification and reuse processes.

Toray will continue to identify market needs, improve product performance, and enhance its membrane technologies to help address diverse water challenges worldwide by providing solutions to streamline the use of water resources and stabilize water supplies.
