Brückner: Demand for functional and technical films increases
“There is an increasing demand for functional and technical films. In the transition to green mobility and green energy, electrical energy storage for both mobility and stationary, is becoming more important,” says Reinhard Priller, Sales Director of Brückner Maschinenbau.
Seizing this rising trend, Brückner, a leader in the production lines for stretched films, displays its specialty film technologies at CHINAPLAS 2024.

Innovations in technical films for energy storage
Notably, the German supplier presents its latest solar back sheet film technology at the trade fair - the highly efficient 6.8m wide line supports an output of 6 tons per hour of BOPET thick film up to 250µm.
The solar back sheet film can be applied in photovoltaic applications, such as lightweight and versatile flexible solar panels or ultra-modern fluoropolymer films with a super-long lifetime in outdoor applications.
Another trade fair highlight is battery separator film, with line concepts as well as customized machine components. The line guarantees high energy efficiency, low production costs and consistent film quality. They are suitable for 3C (computer, communication, and consumer electronics) products, electric vehicles (EVs) as well as stationary energy storage.
Brückner also presents its capacitor film technology, sequential as well as simultaneous stretching process to manufacture extremely thin and high-temperature films for EV applications or high energy density films for renewable energy applications in the power industry.
Brückner’s high performance battery separator film lines are one contribution to the electrical energy storage sector, says Priller. Together with this green trend, other technologies are emerging, such as ultra-light or high temperature capacitors, and Brückner’s LISIM lines can meet the requirements of accurate film production for these capacitors, he adds.

Commitment to sustainability in packaging film
As a worldwide hot topic, environmental issue remains a focus in Brückner’s development plan. Priller expects carbon footprint reduction to be the mainstay on the agenda in upcoming years.
“Rigid packaging will be replaced by flexible packaging, and bottles replaced by pouches,” says Priller. “A modern lifestyle with responsible use of resources is a big challenge, but also a huge opportunity for the plastics industry.”
Flexible film has the potential to contribute by reducing material used for our lifestyle and reducing the overall CO2 footprint, he explains.
In view of this, Brückner showcases packaging film solutions with higher energy efficiency, sustainability, and circularity.
Among the solutions, a special direct recycling system and an increased proportion of A-grade film on the winder lead to reduced use of raw materials and “zero waste” in film production.
Besides, Brückner offers solutions for bio-based and biodegradable biaxially oriented packaging films (e.g. made of PLA/PHA). Mono-material solutions, which close the life cycle of BOPP, BOPET and BOPE plastic packaging, are also exhibited.
Chinese products come into international market
“The Chinese plastics market is going through a conversion phase, and more plastic film products from China will be exported to the international market,” Priller comments. “Therefore, high quality and safety standards in the international market require reliable and precise production of high-quality films at competitive prices.
To compete under such challenging environments, highly flexible film production line concepts featuring lowest energy consumption as well as highest quality and efficiency are essential, emphasizes Priller.
