Teijin Automotive Technologies’ advanced CFRP process was named runner up in the Altair Enlighten Awards.

Developed by Teijin’s team in Pouancé, France, the preforming process enables the serial use of lightweight carbon fiber by allowing the quick and precise production of a door inner out of CFRP. It is used as part of the production of a high performance vehicle door.

The process produces complex layering. The use of various vision systems also allows high precision adjustments of the robot hand effectors at all stages of the process. Full automation also ensures high productivity and optimum performance while the vision systems enable the highest quality level required for a safe part.

The CFRP process results in mass savings – door inner made from carbon fiber, which is extremely lightweight in nature, and the process’ precision optimizes the amount of material used.

This process was also named a runner up in the JEC Innovation Awards earlier this year at JEC World in Paris, France.
