CHINAPLAS 2026: OQ on application trends and the Chinese market
At CHINAPLAS 2026, OQ showcased an extensive, application-led portfolio of PP and PE solutions. Focused on high-performance packaging, infrastructure, and durable consumer goods, the exhibits drew significant interest from both domestic and international visitors.
Peter Yao, Senior Specialist of Technical Development at OQ, shared with Adsale Plastics Network that the Oman-based integrated energy company views China as more than just a primary sales market; it is a vital strategic hub for driving business development across the Asian region.

OQ’s display of 17 polymer grades underscores the company’s commitment to innovation, specifically in cost-performance optimization, lightweighting, and energy-efficient processing. These solutions are engineered for a diverse range of applications, including flexible and rigid packaging, industrial containers, housewares, and consumer electronics.
A key highlight at the booth was Luban RP2251T, a high-clarity injection-grade PP designed for food containers and personal care products. This grade enables lower processing temperatures and shorter molding cycles, effectively reducing unit manufacturing costs.
Additionally, OQ featured Luban LL-R3605UV, a UV-stabilized rotomolding grade specifically developed for demanding infrastructure applications, such as water tanks and industrial containers.

Unlocking application growth potential
“OQ’s showcase at the trade fair directly reflects the robust growth potential we have identified across key applications,” Yao noted.
He highlighted a persistent demand for lightweighting and energy-efficient processing within the rigid packaging sector. Converters are increasingly seeking ways to reduce material consumption without compromising the structural integrity or quality of the final product. In the flexible packaging sector, he observed a significant shift toward mono-material structures, which offer superior recyclability compared to traditional multi-layer formats.
OQ has proactively aligned its product development with these market shifts. “Several of our HDPE grades can be used in the duplex PE-based packaging solution with very high oxygen barrier and moisture barrier properties as well as excellent stiffness and optics that is an potential alternative to conventional multi-materials packaging solutions,” Yao explained. “Regarding our PP portfolio, we are prioritizing enhanced flowability and lower processing temperatures, which empower our customers to boost both energy efficiency and overall productivity.”
Furthermore, Yao pointed out that customer expectations are becoming increasingly sophisticated. Converters now demand customized materials that facilitate faster production speeds while ensuring line stability and batch-to-batch consistency. There is also a firm expectation for lightweighting that does not sacrifice mechanical performance.
In Yao’s view, these requirements are driving the plastics industry toward a "higher performance, lower cost" model—a direction OQ regards as a fundamental structural trend rather than a temporary market adjustment.

China: A strategic platform beyond the domestic market
China remains a priority for OQ, with a strategic value that extends beyond domestic sales.
Yao noted that the Chinese market serves as an increasingly globalized platform, helping OQ identify emerging trends not only within China but also across Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, India, Pakistan, and even Africa.
For both China and the broader Asia-Pacific region, OQ is committed to promoting value-added solutions. According to Yao, the company focuses on grades that drive operational value by enhancing flowability, reducing energy consumption, increasing throughput, and supporting recyclability.
He also observed that market dynamics vary across Asia. While some Southeast Asian markets remain focused on standard film and injection molding applications, more mature markets, such as Australia, demand highly customized solutions. Meanwhile, India is emerging as a high-growth market that is drawing significant strategic attention.
Addressing supply-chain volatility, Yao emphasized OQ’s role as a reliable partner. The company maintains close coordination with logistics providers, allowing for a flexible response to evolving customer requirements.
In the current market often unsettled by price fluctuations and geopolitical uncertainty, Yao suggested that long-term partnerships and direct, transparent communication between suppliers and customers have never been more critical.
