Do overseas buyers consider buying from Chinese suppliers?
At the fair, we interviewed random overseas buyers to see if they have considered buying from Chinese suppliers and what factors they consider. Buyers from different countries have all expressed their interest in buying machines and materials from Chinese suppliers.
But when asked about the factors they consider, buyers from different countries and sectors have varied opinions.
Is “cheap price” the only reason for choosing Chinese suppliers?
Still thinking “cheap” defines Chinese suppliers? Not anymore! The truth is: Overseas buyers has shifted their sourcing focus from price to technology and quality.
Overseas buyers from India, Brazil, and Europe expressed their admiration on the huge improvement in technology and quality of Chinese machines and materials that they have witnessed at CHINAPLAS 2026, which have encouraged them to choose Chinese suppliers.
Paola Ruje, Technical Director of Acoplasticos (Colombian Plastics Industry Association), representative of overseas buyer delegation, also praised on Chinese technologies, especially in smart production, automation, and recycling.
Focusing more on stable price and supply due to geopolitical situations
Recent geopolitical situations, including US tariff and middle-east conflict, have caused fluctuation in supply and price of raw materials. Byung Sam Son, Senior Vice President of Korea Packaging Association, representative of overseas buyer delegation, commented on the recent oil price surge has led to 70-80% increase in plastic raw material cost in Korea, which has significantly lowered competitiveness of Korean packaging industry.
Argentinian companies also face similar problem. Antonio Paolini, President of Argentina Chamber of the Plastics Industry (CAIP), representative of overseas buyer delegation, also mentioned that the recent middle-east conflicts have pushed Argentinian companies to consider Chinese suppliers. According to his knowledge, many companies in Argentina and South America have sourced raw materials from China.
High flexibility, fast delivery and implementation
Delivery time and technology implementation time are also important factors for overseas buyers to consider suppliers.
Buyers from India and France pointed out that Chinese companies have fast delivery time and short technology implementation cycle. These are the reasons for them to consider Chinese suppliers.
Communication and service are also important
“Hard power” like technology, supply, and price is not enough. Buyers nowadays also look at communication, service and aftersales support.
Overseas buyers from Turkey and India highlighted the importance of smooth communication when choosing Chinese suppliers. The Indian buyer also added that he will prefer to choose Chinese companies with subsidiaries in India for better communication and aftersales services.
Wassim Wadie Mikhai, General Manager of Egyptian plastic bag manufacturer ALEX MARK, representative of overseas buyer delegation, also mentioned that Chinese suppliers are more flexible in communication and doing business.
Hard and soft power fulfilled! All-rounded support for overseas buyers
Few years ago, when asking overseas buyers about the reason for choosing Chinese suppliers, the answer would be “cheap” and “convenient”.
After doing interviews at CHINAPLAS 2026, we can conclude that overseas buyers no longer merely consider price when choosing suppliers. Instead, they do an all-rounded consideration – from communication, technology, price, to aftersales service and support. And it is no surprise that Chinese suppliers can support all these demands!
