TotalEnergies Corbion releases first Sustainability Report in PLA industry
TotalEnergies Corbion, a PLA producer, has published its first Sustainability Report, setting a new benchmark for transparency, accountability, and measurable sustainability performance in the company and the bioplastics industry.

TotalEnergies Corbion published its first Sustainability Report.
The report discloses key environmental, operational, and sustainability metrics, providing a transparent and credible view of its contribution to advancing a more sustainable and circular plastics industry.
“Publishing our first Sustainability Report, which is also the first dedicated Sustainability Report in the PLA industry, is an important milestone. It reinforces our commitment to transparency and accountability while demonstrating the tangible progress we are making as a company and helping to drive progress across the industry,” said Thierry Boulfroy, CEO of TotalEnergies Corbion.
Key operational milestones at TotalEnergies Corbion
The 2025 Sustainability Report focuses primarily on TotalEnergies Corbion’s own operations and manufacturing footprint, highlighting significant progress in reducing environmental impacts, improving resource efficiency, and advancing circular production practices.
Key operational milestones include:
100% renewable electricity used in production
Zero waste to landfill
Continued reduction in greenhouse gas emissions intensity
Ongoing improvements in energy and resource efficiency across operations
PLA supporting multi-pathway circular system
The report highlights the role of Luminy PLA, a 100% biobased polymer derived from renewable resources, as a scalable alternative to conventional plastics. The material can deliver significant reductions in carbon footprint while maintaining the performance required for applications such as packaging, textiles, consumer goods, and durable products.
The report also outlines how PLA can support a multi‑pathway circular model, combining mechanical recycling, chemical recycling, and industrial composting. This flexibility helps enable practical circular solutions across a wide range of real-world applications and geographies.
In addition, TotalEnergies Corbion also reports continued expansion of PLA into new markets and applications through collaboration across the value chain. This report highlights further developments including ongoing investment in recycled PLA and circular feedstocks, alongside collaborations with industry, academia, and supply chain partners to accelerate innovation and support evolving regulatory frameworks.
With the publication of this first Sustainability Report, TotalEnergies Corbion establishes a structured approach for sustainability reporting and reaffirms its ambition to combine industrial performance, transparency, and circular material innovation to help shape the future of sustainable plastics.
