PCR plastic incorporated in Fairphone 5 detachable back cover

Oct 9, 2024

Following the successful collaboration on Fairphone 4, MOCOM and Fairphone collaborated again to enhance the sustainability of the latest Fairphone 5, by incorporating Altech PC ECO, a material made entirely from recycled plastic, for the detachable back cover.

MOCOM’s recycled plastic is used in Fairphone 5 detachable back cover.

MOCOM’s Altech PC ECO is composed entirely of post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastics. It helps reduce the Global Warming Potential (GWP) of the smartphone case by 80%, compared to using primary materials.

In terms of performance, the material features high impact resistance, ensuring that the Fairphone 5 can withstand falls from significant heights, thus contributing to its longevity.

The recycled material also offers design versatility as it allows various color options, including an attractive transparent version, devoid of any black speckles, despite being crafted entirely from recycled materials.

With this dedication to sustainability, Fairphone 5 was awarded the GLOMO Award "Best Mobile Innovation for Climate Action" in the "Tech4Good" category.

MOCOM will exhibit its sustainable portfolio at Fakuma 2024 in Friedrichshafen, Germany, from October 15 to 19.
